Fly Casting {fli-cas-ting}..the art of casting a fly line for fishing or competition using a fly rod..
What To Expect During Your First Casting Lesson…
….Expect me to have a professional , positive attitude with a sense of humor…we are going to have fun !
…Please don’t expect to learn everything right out of the gate….everyone learns at a different pace.
…Don’t be too hard on yourself if you feel you aren’t progressing fast enough…I will never rush a student.
…This is challenging, as you are going to have a nine foot fly rod with thirty five feet or more of fly line extending
from the tip of the rod most likely for the first time. It will feel awkward and that is ok.
…We instruct three different ways…1)Verbally ,2)Visually, and 3)Kinesthetic…Kinesthetic is where I may place my
hand with your permission just ahead of yours on the rod and guide you through the motion
of the cast we are working on.
…We will begin with basic drills to get a feel for the rod action, such as ..circles - eights - and straights. Next will be a
triangle drill. Then show you how to do a roll cast so you can effectively lay your line out in order to practice.
….We will then move into a pickup and lay down cast, then progress into false casting and explain why we false cast.
…At this point we will assess where you are at and if your rod stops are where they should be and your loops look
efficient and are the proper size, we will move on. If you have got this far, you are doing fine.
….If you have not….THAT IS ALRIGHT…! Everyone learns at a different pace. We will get through whatever we
get through, without rushing and keeping it light….Casting is supposed to be fun !
….Final note…learning to cast effectively is accomplished by progressive learning , patience and practice !
